Next Generation EU

A roadmap to a greener, smarter, and more innovative Europe

NextGenerationEU sets the blueprint for a greener, more digital, and more resilient future. To bring its projects to life, however, investment is needed on a grand scale, with the EU’s long-term budget and NextGenerationEU funding combining to make the largest stimulus package ever financed in Europe.

Focusing on six key areas:

  • Boost the green transition through the promotion of renewable energies, sustainable mobility, and more.
  • Accelerate digital transformation through greater digitization of public services and the wider economy.
  • Reinforce social infrastructure and services while reducing territorial disparities.
  • Enhancing access to advanced education and training in skills relevant to the future economy
  • Support inclusive growth, research and development, and innovation for all.
  • Ensure modern, efficient, and accessible healthcare services.

With NextGenerationEU, the EU will invest in environmentally-friendly technologies, roll out greener vehicles and public transport, and make our buildings and public spaces more energy efficient.

But the EU also needs to protect our natural environment.

  • Improve water quality in our rivers and seas, reduce waste and plastic litter, plant billions of trees, and bring back the bees.
  • create green spaces in our cities and increase the use of renewable energy.
  • make farming more environmentally friendly, so our food is healthier.

The EU is funding online training courses so that everyone, young or old, can improve their digital skills. We’re helping small and medium-sized businesses go online. And we’re making e-education more accessible.

Together, we can make Europe healthier. However, it’s not just about big actions. A good diet and regular exercise can go a long way towards improving our physical and mental wellbeing.

European companies have the chance to join in transforming their countries via investment in six main policy areas:

  • digital transformation
  • green transition
  • smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth
  • social and territorial cohesion
  • health, economic, social, and institutional resilience
  • policies for the next generation.
